This past weekend I made a trip to the local home improvement store and blew a wad of cash. I guess that is the sort of thing that happens when you get your tax refund.
So here is what I spent part of the money on : new outlets and covers, switches and covers, 2 gallons of primer, 3 gallons of paint, painting supplies, 3 ceiling fans, lock set for the back door, and new door knobs for the house. I still need to go this weekend and get material (and hopefully a miter saw) to build a bed frame.
I also went to Ikea this past weekend. I decided to go there to pick up new interior lighting for the house because they had a better looking selection, and are less expensive. Along with lighting, I got 2 little dressers for the boys, and a little metal locker to use as a TV stand in their room.
The little one has a bad habit of turning our bed into a crumb factory if no one is in their while he watches TV. He can now do that in his room. And no, they are not allowed to eat in their room, bu tit doesn't stop them from trying.

I watched the documentary "My Architect" this past weekend. It is about the illegitimate child of Louis Kahn. He embarks on a journey to know his father through his architecture and people he worked with. I found it very interesting, even though Kahn is not one of my favorite architects. It is one of those movies that inspires you want to create your own monument for the world.
I need to take an architectural tour of this area.

I have been very busy working on a project for work that is fast paced, so that is why I haven't posted a new blog recently. Yes, same old excuse, which really doesn't work since I am on the computer practically every night. Well, except for the week the project went out, cause I worked until bedtime. That's the only thing about working overtime when you get paid salary, you still get paid salary. Good thing I love architecture!
Some of you may or may not know I have a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from UT Arlington. According to state law, I am eligible to sit for the state exam once I have completed my internship and IDP record through NCARB. The new rule is that you have to have a professional degree now to sit for the test. Mine is a pre-professional degree, but I started school before 09/01/99, so I get grandfathered in.
The state now has an application where you can start the exams prior to finishing your internship as long as you have a professional degree and have completed 6 months of full time experience. I wondered if I was eligible for that since I was grandfathered in for taking the exam. So, I sent an email to the state asking if I am eligible with my degree since I am grandfathered.
I get an email back from the coordinator, and it basically states the rule, and then proceeds to tell me I am eligible since I started school before 09/01/99. So, I send in the application and payment. A few weeks later, I get an email telling me I am not eligible because I have a pre-professional degree. I was a little baffled as to why the sudden change.
I sent the coordinator the email where she stated I could, and the response was just the same - you are not eligible. I had also asked for an explanation as to why this happened. Had I overlooked something obvious? Then I decided to send an email to the director. I got back the same response, but with an explanation this time. It was not the explanation I wanted, and to a degree, it was not consistent with what had happened. Having worked for a government before, I knew it would be no use to go any further because it would just pile into a huge regurgitation of feces. I can wait 2 more years to start the exams, and supposedly my fee is already paid. I saved that email too.
