Last post of the Year

Well, here is my last post of the year. I will spend my evening watching "The Fantasia Barrino Story". No, not really, but it was on. It made me laugh.

Anyway, here is the finished lamp. My brother Dallas ended up with it at the giftmas party. I got a gift card to Home Depot, yes!

I have a few projects I want to do, besides another lamp. I'll unveil those once they get started, because I don't want to say I'm going to do something and not do it. I'm also still trying to set up my workshop. The garage still has stuff from the move that needs to be placed.

One main project for the house is to do some painting and such in the hall bathroom to update it a little. There is plenty I can do to the house, but alas I need some cash.

Mostly complete lamp

Here is the lamp completed, except for the fourth bulb which was busted in the package. I'll take another shot once I get the other bulb, and a better shot of the finish on the box. I held the camera as still as possible to get these shots without the flash, so they are a little fuzzy, but I like the glow.

A few of you seem to like the lamp, and a request was even made. I might ponder the notion of doing a couple of these, but I warn that the parts alone cost between $45-$50., roughly estimating. I am very thrilled at how the project came out, and hopefully the one I make for myself will come out easier.

Lamp

I came across this, and decided to make one for the white elephant/chinese christmas I will be attending at a relatives. The expensive parts for it are the bulbs ($3.50 each). Here are a couple of peeks at the project.

Dimmer switch & knob

Socket

I am using a knob off an old guitar in lieu of the crap plastic one that comes with the dimmer. Hopefully I can wire it right and not burn down the house or shock myself. I bought some dark ebony stain for the box, as well as some small feet so the box will "float" a little off the table. If it comes out well, I plan on making one for my desk at work.

No, not gone

So I decided to keep the site up, and I went and renewed the domain for 2 more years. Life is good.

I am on a team that has entered into a design competition for bamboo. I will post some of my sketches once I bring the sketchbook home with me. It should be interesting. We are doing ours in the pavilion category. I didn't realize how much stronger bamboo is than typical lumber here. There is also some good design work out there incorporating it as well.

Gone

Well, this will probably be the last entry in this "blog". I haven't kept it up like I wanted, so I'm not going to renew the domain, even though it is the one I want to keep. I can use the money somewhere more productive. I know many of you will be sad that you can't live your life through this blog. Well, not many of you, just that one guy who has the same name as my son.

I will still have a presence on the "web". I have a MySpace page, as well as one at IAM/BME (but you have to be a member and have body modifications).

I can also be contacted at mdk@prodigy.net
