LEED revisited

Took my test today, and passed it. Got 183 out of 200 points. Only 170 points are required to pass. Now it is time to sit back and chill. Well, no, got to go start laundry.

LEED

I am currently studying to take the LEED NC test. It is required by my firm as part of employment. I was supposed to have it done within 6 months, but that did not happen. Luckily, there are a lot of people that haven't taken it who have been there longer than me. I just figured I need to take it before they update the reference manual.

I have been trying to update the photo blog at least every week or few days. More than this blog. I have briefly thought about turning the whole site into just a photo blog, but who knows.

I did get my new Epiphone SG replaced, so I am happy about that. I took it over to a friend's house to set it up properly. I have even composed a couple of tunes on it, and started refining others that hopefully I can record soon.

L.A.

I was in Los Angeles a for a few days this past week for work. It was for coordination with engineers and our L.A. office. I got to stay in a "swank" hotel. It is sort of cool to get to travel a little on the company's money.

When we first got there, we made a little site seeing stop at the Walt Disney Concert Hall by Frank Gehry. We didn't go inside, but it was neat to get to see none the less. This is the concert hall that was spoofed on The Simpsons. I didn't take a camera, so I have no shots of my own for it. Boo hoo.

I was able to bring home a little memento from The Standard. You should have seen the condom box that was in the room.

The New JOB

For those of you that don't know, I recently switched jobs but in the same field (architecture duh). I was at Sterling Barnett Little for 2 1/2 years, and I am now at Perkins+Will in Dallas, Tx.

The main reason for the switch was to get a better benefits package, and also to work in a larger firm. I figured it was time to check out another firm so I would have something to compare things to as far as function and atmosphere go in an architecture firm. The project I was placed on is in California, so I may be doing some traveling. We'll have to wait and see.

If you are not busy this Saturday night, you should come see me play drums for the legendary Quo. We go on at 10PM at the Moon in Fort Worth off of Berry Street near TCU.

The Job Site

Went to the job site for a visit today (for a health center being built). They are supposed to be finished by the end of the year, but they have until the end of January if they need it. It is looking good. I actually wore my hard hat this time. I decided to snag one from the plotter room to keep as my own.

I feel like my office, or certain individuals, don't want me to do design work or would rather have me do other things. I had a design project for a week, then I had a vacation. Someone else did the rendering for it and changed a lot of it up. I got little to no feedback/help during my little stint of design. The project went to review with the user, pitted against other firms. We got short listed for it recently, so now the design is being refined some, and some interior design is also being implemented. Not that I have anything to do with that, since I am apparently not doing the design anymore.

I think the short time I got on it was supposed to "satisfy" me or something. I made that the focus of my review last spring - to get some design projects. There are other things bugging me right now about my current situation. Erg....

My Architect

I watched the documentary "My Architect" this past weekend. It is about the illegitimate child of Louis Kahn. He embarks on a journey to know his father through his architecture and people he worked with. I found it very interesting, even though Kahn is not one of my favorite architects. It is one of those movies that inspires you want to create your own monument for the world.

I need to take an architectural tour of this area.
